There are lots of stories from lots of people about their bowling club and their companions.

Perhaps one of the most famous comes from England centuries ago.

Drake's Pride

The English nation was becoming a great sailing ship power and inevitably it came into conflict with another seafaring nation - the Spanish.

The Spanish assembled a great armada of huge ships and set sail to England to pound England. Waiting with their smaller sailing boats were the English lead by their Admiral Sir Francis Drake.

Drake and his officers were  playing bowls while waiting for the Spanish to get within range of their coasts.

Legend has it, that as the cliff signal fires were lit, warning of the
threat to England, Sir Francis jokingly said to his men:

"We have time for one more end of bowls before we go out and beat the Spanish".

The word passed from man to man - confidence  grew - after their game of bowls, the English seaman went out to battle and won a great sea victory which changed the course of European history.

No wonder ! We play with Drake's Pride.
